The Banjo Ukulele or Banjolele is a hybrid of a small banjo and a ukulele. These were extremely popular in the early part of the 20th century. The widely-acknowledged master of the Banjolele is one George Formby. These instruments, while, of course, used to play period music, are also very popular as a fiddle accompaniment instrument.
The Banjolele that we sell, made by Gold Tone, achieves more volume, while keeping that distinctive uke sound. Indeed, the Banjolele is the instrument of choice for uke players seeking more sonic power. This open-back model can be made even louder by adding a resonator. We can obtain the resonator and installation hardware for this instrument. Just send an email (don@DonRickertDesign.com) if you are interested.
We have two videos, the first being one demonstrating early 19th Century George Formby style and the second demonstrating use of a Banjo Uke to accompany the fiddle.
