Pirastro Obligato Violin Strings, Set, 4/4 size: An exclusive new Pirastro core material along with advances in manufacturing technique resulting in the proven sound of gut strings with the advantages of synthetic based strings. Despite the fact that the core material is not the same as Dr. Thomastik Dominant strings, the Pirastro Obligato are similarly constructed with a "goldstahl" (gold coated steel) e-string...in many ways similar to Dominants with a plain steel e-string.

These strings are not price-controlled by the manufacturer as is the case with bows and some instruments, so you will undoubtably find lower prices at the online super stores. I don't think that you will find the expertise we possess in appropriate use and setting up your instrument at the super stores, however...your choice!

Either real or synthetic gut strings are important for an authentic Neil Gow Pochette as well as a 1860s fiddle setup. The Pirastro Obligato strings are one of the best synthetic gut strings available. Pirastro also makes the best real gut string (Pirastro Passione) that we know of.
