We have the knowledge and experience in setting up a vintage fiddle or new violin for the many regional styles of Irish fiddling that you will not typically find at your local music store, violin shop or fiddle shop. Whether you use gut or metal strings, with or without a chin rest and/or a shoulder rest, we can make the instrument play the way it is supposed to in accordance to your needs. Price listed is the basic cost, including strings, and is subject to being higher. Factors that determine final cost are the condition of the instrument, whether new tuning pegs need to be fit, whether a new tailpiece is needed, etc.
Typically, the setup is done on a vintage fiddle or new violin provided by the customer, with other options available.
Other Options:
If you do not already have a fiddle, new or vintage, that you want us to set up correctly for your type of fiddling, you may wish to go with a new fiddle with the cost of setup for Irish or Scottish tradtional fiddling included in the price, the Rickert-Benker Fiddle w Celtic Setup by Don Rickert Lutherie.

Finally, you may desire a completely custom-made fiddle, 
Custom-Made Fiddle with Celtic Setup Don Rickert Lutherie. Our custom-made fiddle will be of particular interest to the player desiring elaborate Irish and/or Scottish inkwork (called "rosing"). Such inkwork is a lot like tatooing, except that it is done by a pen and ink artist on the fiddle prior to varnishing but with a special wood sealant applied (so the inkwork is sharp rather than fuzzy).
Professional Performers
 Professional Performers will often desire the installation of the best pickup we know of for acoustic violin and fiddle amplification, the Realist Pickup for Violin or Fiddle with Mini-Jack by David Gage.
