• Master-level viola da gamba-inspired shaped 4-string fiddle but with the carved arch top and back, as well as the neck, stringing and accessories of a modern violin or fiddle.
• Highly-decorated with carving, front and back, as well as a carved dragon-head “scroll.”
• Modern bass bar and sound post, expertly tuned and adjusted for the kind of power, projection volume and beautiful timbre expected by a Master-level or Professional musician.
• The default string choices are Infeld SuperFlexible Rope (steel) Core or Infeld Vision Synthetic Core. Both of these strings are known for their sonic power. The Vision strings are also known for their dark bass-infused sound. Any other string imaginable is possible as well—you pay the difference in cost for more expensive strings.
• Dov Schmidt “harp” compensated tailpiece. Whether fine-tuners are used and on which strings depends on the strings used and your preference. Note: the current photos show a traditional “tulip” style tailpiece with gold fine-tuners.
• Choice of Wittner Fine-Tune™ internally-geared planetary pegs or traditional wooden pegs to your specification: Generally the price is the same for the Wittners or wooden pegs…The Wittners cost us more, but fitting wooden pegs is labor intensive; hence, the same price. Important Notes: Build time is about 6 weeks for this instrument. We will be bringing as many NUVO BAROQUE fiddles as we can finish to the 5th Annual Hoppin’ John Bluegrass and Old-Time Fiddlers’ Convention (Sept. 15 – 17). This instrument MAY be one of them.
