Mandolins & Octave Mandolins Includes F-Style, A-Style, Celtic and Flatiron type mandolins and octave mandolins
Flat-Top Flatiron-Style Mandolin by Don Rickert Design The Rickert Flat-Top Mandolin has a mellow, yet still loud and powerful sound sought by Celtic (both Irish and Scottish) players, as well as many Old-Time mandolin players. This is a MUCH more historically-correct instrument for Old-Time music than either an F or an A type mandolin.
This sweet mandolin is our take on the now-defunct, and increasingly collectible, “Flatiron” Mandolin, which has a long and interesting story, as an independent company, as a division of Gibson, and later as a division of Weber Mandolins. Ours has a rosewood fingerboard, mahogany neck, as well as mahogany sides and back. It has a spruce top.

Loar Mandolin LM 500 VS (AKA Golden Age Mandolin) The Loar Golden Age F-Model Mandolin is getting great reviews! Embodying the spirit of the rare and costly vintage mandolins from the Golden Age of mandolin lutherie, the all-solid carved wood mandolin from Loar has high-end features at a affordable price (it's still not cheap, as it is a bona fide professional mandolin).

Octave Mandolin (by Gold tone) The Celtic or Irish short-scale octave mandolin (like this one by Gold Tone, which we really like) is actually a slightly enlarged mandola (normally tuned like a viola C G D A) heavily strung so as to play an octave lower than a mandolin (G D A E). It is often crossed-tuned to either G D A D, A D A D or A D A E
